Updated: In the Face of the Courts

*** Français ci-dessous. ***

*** Since Guelph ABC posted “In the Face of the Courts”, we have been reflecting on our decision and realized it would have been better to give more consideration before retracting all support for Girr. We wrote this statement to share the story as a learning experience that we can all draw from. The mistakes in the court represented a grey area, and the folks in Guelph ABC don’t all share the same views on how to approach support in this situation. Since we cannot condone the actions taken in court, not all of us feel comfortable giving him money from the GABC G20 fund. However, we do feel that Girr deserves support. Although we will not be collecting the funds for him, his mailing address in jail and fundraising info will be posted on the blog as well as his statement on the events. We will let folks know of any events being organized for him. People can also get in touch with fundraising efforts for Girr here. Following is a slightly edited version of the statement originally posted on our blog to reflect our current position. ***

See Girr’s statement on the court process here.

Craft Fair Fundraiser A Huge Success!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the Winter Craft Fair yesterday. We had about 20 vendors, tonnes of amazing food, and sent a bunch of beautiful postcards to our comrades inside prisons.

We raised about $550 towards supporting G20 prisoners.

Again, much thanks and love to everyone who helped make it happen.

As a reminder, we have a total fundraising goal of $3000 in 2012. Keep the ideas flowin, let’s keep the cash rollin’ in!

Support G20 Prisoners

As January 2012 draws to a close, we still continue to persevere against state repression from the Toronto G20 protests. Friends are coming out of jail, but more friends are also going in, and many are awaiting sentencing. For a snapshot of the ongoing legal processes, check out

Guelph ABC needs more money. Your money perhaps. We are fundraising to cover ongoing canteen costs for these comrades, travel expenses to visit them, collect phone calls, sending letters and reading materials, etc.

In total, our fundraising goal for 2012 is $3200. Continued…

Mandy Hiscocks Sentenced to 16 Months

Support Mandy

What have you got yourself into Vanier?

“White supremacy is wrong, it’s violent and dangerous, whether it’s at the hands of a fringe group like the KKK or an accepted institution like the criminal justice system.”
“…This is why we, myself and the people in the other room, don’t have decorum in this system.”
-Mandy Hiscock’s statement to the courts

On Friday (January) the 13th 2012, Mandy Hiscocks was sentenced to 20-24 month for 1 count of Counseling to Commit Mischief and Counseling to Obstruct Police. With 31 days in pretrial custody and harsh bail conditions taken into account, Mandy’s remaining time to serve is 16 months.

With the courthouse filled with supporters, more than could even fit in the courtroom, Mandy delivered an awesome speech chastising the justice system and enlightening the judge as to why exactly, her desires have not been deterred by her sentence.

The Judge took it upon himself to try and engage her on many of the points she brought up, defending the state and capital, and even at one point announcing that he is also apart of the “99%”. Warm cheers and chants from supporters for Mandy’s words brought threats of contempt charges and removing all her supporters from the courtroom.

if you would like to stay up to date on Mandy’s incarceration, check out the support blog set up for her, or check back in with Guelph ABC for relevant updates. Mandy’s Blog: http://boredbutnotbroken.tao.ca/
